Katie Huber-Rhoades

Counseling Intern

We are hardwired for connection. The more connected we are to ourselves, the more connected we feel to each other.

Before our first session, I offer free phone consultations to make sure I’m a good fit for your counseling needs. My rate is $75 for 50 minute counseling sessions. I also have an income based sliding scale available upon request. I will provide all of the necessary documentation for out-of-network insurance claims submissions. Please check with your insurance provider for your reimbursement policy when working with an out of network provider.

My name is Katie Huber-Rhoades (they/them). I am a third year student at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology pursuing a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology. I enjoy spending time in nature with my partner and our dog. Give me a good book next to a body of water and I am at peace. Prior to starting this journey to become a counselor, I was a Pediatric Occupational Therapy Assistant working with sensory processing disorders for 3.5 years. My previous career along with my personal journey led me to discover my passion for healing and wellness. Though I previously worked with children, I am now transitioning to providing services to adolescents and adults.

I am informed by the beliefs and practices of abolition. The systems and structures we live in contribute to the perpetuation of harm that directly impact mental health and wellness. Abolition believes in the possibility of building a world that centers human dignity. I believe there is power in unity and understanding our interconnectedness with Self in relation to others— human, and non-human. I practice from a holistic, relational-psychodynamic approach that focuses on bringing the unconscious into consciousness, taking into account an individual’s mind, body, spirit, and the systems and culture they live in.

My hope is that you will find our sessions to be an empathetic, non-judgmental space for you to be radically honest and explore your authentic self. I believe each of us has an inner wisdom working to help guide us toward healing. Our time together will be spent exploring the root causes of your pain and how it is showing up in the present moment. We will work to help you create boundaries, establish safety within your body and your world by developing healthy coping skills and a deeper awareness of self.

My ultimate goal is to help people lead a more satisfying, conscious, and authentic existence. I'm passionate about creating an environment where every client feels valued, supported, and safe enough to share their most vulnerable parts.

  • I use principles of internal family systems, attachment theory, and incorporate mindfulness practices into sessions for clients struggling with sexual abuse, religious trauma, grief, anxiety, self-esteem, and LGBTQIA+ issues. My OT background also means I have extensive knowledge about sensory processing issues & chronic illness.

  • In addition to my Masters in Counseling Psychology at The Seattle School of Theology & Psychology, I have completed trainings in the following areas:

-Integrating Internal Family Systems across clinical applications

    -Complex Trauma

    -The Fallout of Narcissistic Abuse

    -Mindfulness
